Description: |
The Scholastic News Kids Press Corps website provides "news for kids, by kids" for elementary and junior high school students. The Scholastic News Kid Reporters are a group of 60 talented young journalists, ages 10-14, who cover news from their hometowns across the country. The topics covered range from breaking news to politics, entertainment, sports, book reviews and author interviews. The website currently features reporting from the Election 2012 campaign trail, including coverage of the Republican and Democratic National Conventions.
The Scholastic News Kids Press Corps website is used by teachers in classrooms around the country to supplement learning about current events from a kid's point of view. The website receives around 50,000 visits per month, both from classrooms and from kids at home who are interested in the news. The Scholastic News Kids Press Corps began more than a decade ago during the 2000 Election, and in the past year alone Kid Reporters have interviewed everyone from director Steven Spielberg to author Brian Selznick and both President Barack Obama and First Lady Michelle Obama. In addition to the website, their stories can also be found in Scholastic Classroom Magazines. |
