Description: |
This summer became a transformative moment for equality after the Supreme Court ruled on two historic marriage equality cases. Months prior to the Supreme Court’s June rulings, HRC began the work to encourage fair-minded Americans across the country to stand publicly and visibly on the side of equality and to create a sense of national unity. HRC offered members and supporters both online and offline ways to show support for marriage equality and, in doing so, created one of the largest social media campaigns in Facebook history. The HRC red equality logo launched the same-sex marriage debate into the homes of Americans that previously felt untouched by LGBT inequalities and, after turning the Internet red, became emblematic of the widespread support for marriage equality.
